AI Won't Replace You (Unless You Allow It To)
These days, I’m playing with Lovable, Cursor, ChatGPT, Claude—all the AI tools. And I see a pattern:
Most of the time, AI is not seen as a companion. It’s seen as something that will replace us.
This is even reflected in how people talk with AI.
The One-Shot Prompt Problem
There are multiple ways to talk with AI. But it seems like the one-shot prompt is the approach most people use.
This is the most confusing one for me. It will never work.
Example: “Go to New York”
Imagine I say to you: “Please go to New York.”
Then after a while: “Where are you?”
You reply: “I’m sitting in the ocean.”
“What? Why?”
“Because you said I should go to New York.”
“No, I meant the New York Bakery here where we live!”
The Point
As humans, we don’t always provide all the context. So as a result, the result won’t be perfect.
The same applies to AI. It’s not natural for AI to produce perfect output if we don’t provide perfect input.
Plus, AI needs to keep reasoning—because reasoning means enriching context and providing better context.
The Best Recommendation: Treat AI as a Companion
Approach AI as your companion—for life, for work, for personal projects.
Rather than expecting AI to provide you the best solution (or even a solution), stop having that expectation.
Instead, expect AI to help you:
- Discuss
- Brainstorm
- Reason
- Find ideas
- Organize your thoughts
But then the rest should be you guiding AI. Or maybe it’s the opposite—but either way, it’s a joint effort. It’s collaborative. It’s not “AI does everything.”
Why? Because If Not, You’ll Lose
If you treat AI as a replacement rather than a companion, you won’t be supercharged.
To be honest, I’m feeling supercharged thanks to AI. AI helps me do things I wasn’t able to do before, or things that required a lot of time or a lot of colleagues.
But AI still has limits. And that’s okay. You need to recognize those limits, not be frustrated by them.
AI Won’t Generate Completely New Ideas
If you need fresh, creative thinking, sure—ask AI. But AI will not generate a completely new idea.
AI will reshuffle something from its training set and create something for you. Maybe you weren’t aware of that idea before, and now you are. That’s valuable.
AI is a great way to:
- Gather context
- Access extensive knowledge in minutes
But again, AI won’t replace us unless we stop working with AI (or keep fighting against it).
The Replacement Scenario
Yes, at some point, if people train AI well enough and you’re not working smart, AI will replace your job.
But not autonomously. I believe we’re far from having fully autonomous AI.
On the other hand, as humans, we can perform, act, and think way faster, way better, and way more empathetically when we work with AI.
I love feedback.
