Why I Drink So Much Coffee (It's Not What You Think)
This morning, I was drinking yet another coffee with my son. He rolled his eyes: “Oh no, Puppy is drinking yet another coffee.”
So I explained to him the reasons. Because there’s more than just the taste.
Reason 1: Serving Others
For me, coffee is a way to say welcome to someone.
Whenever someone visits, I ask: “Do you want coffee?”
It’s a way to discuss, to be human, to connect with someone else. It’s a way to be kind and help others. This is the first principle.
Reason 2: The Taste, But It’s More the Ritual
Sure, it’s about the taste and the caffeine. But more than the taste, it’s about the ritual.
I wake up pretty early in the morning. My ritual starts with drinking a couple of glasses of water, and then having my coffee—even better if it’s made with the moka. The ritual is a way for me to focus. That’s another reason.
Reason 3: Workaholic Mode
When I’m in workaholic mode, I drink a lot of coffee. (Disclaimer: This is not healthy, so please don’t follow this.)
Caffeine can alter your biological rhythm, especially if you drink it after lunch. I’ve learned this lesson. But it is what it is.
That’s yet another reason.
Reason 4 (The Most Important): Freedom
This is my main driver.
Picture this: A yellow moka, in nature, surrounded by mountains or forest.
That image represents freedom for me.
When I wake up every morning, I see this image in my mind. It makes me breathe differently.
One day, I want to wake up in my cabin and drink coffee while watching nature outside.
I use the word “watching” intentionally—because nature is the best real movie in the world.
I remember once running in the snow (it was freezing), and coffee afterward felt like: “I did it. Relax. Breathe in. Breathe out.”
Coffee is my way of saying to myself: “It’s possible.”
My Coffee Addiction (And My Limits)
I know I’m coffee-addicted. This is not healthy advice. Coffee causes addiction.
I’m trying to limit my coffee to mornings only. In the evenings, I drink herbal tea instead (it’s slightly different—the preparation, the feeling).
But I’m trying to find yet another ritual where I can drink something and feel like I’m doing something kind to myself.
The Invitation
Whenever you’re near me, I will prepare coffee for you. Then I’ll be ready to hug you and listen to you.
I love feedback.
